How does the short-circuit protection function of the power inverter work

A power inverter is a device specifically used to convert DC power into AC power. It is widely used in solar power generation systems, automobiles, and other fields that require AC power. However, when using a power inverter, we must be aware of the risk of short circuits, because short circuits may cause a rapid increase in current, which can damage the equipment or even cause a fire. Therefore, the short-circuit protection function has become one of the important safety functions that are indispensable in power inverters.

The core function of the short-circuit protection function is to monitor the current and voltage of the output circuit. Once a short circuit is detected in the output circuit, the protection function will immediately start and cut off the output circuit to avoid damage to the equipment.

In terms of short-circuit detection, power inverters usually monitor the current and voltage of the output circuit through built-in current sensors or circuits. Under normal circumstances, the current and voltage of the output circuit should be within the design range of the inverter. Once a short circuit is detected in the output circuit, the inverter will respond immediately.

In terms of short-circuit protection triggering, the power inverter will set a short-circuit protection threshold. When the current or voltage of the output circuit exceeds the threshold, the protection function will automatically take effect and quickly cut off the output circuit to prevent the short-circuit current from continuing to flow to the load end, thereby protecting the safety of the equipment and users.

After the short-circuit protection is triggered, the power inverter usually enters the protection state until the short-circuit situation is resolved. Once the short circuit is eliminated, the inverter will automatically restore the output circuit and continue to work normally. Some power inverters will also emit a sound or light prompt when the short-circuit protection is triggered to remind the user that there is a short-circuit problem in the equipment and it needs to be dealt with in time.
